Me with my seed packet designs

In 2025, I connected with Sistah Seeds, a Black woman-owned farm, to create illustrations with the goal of creating representations of Black women farmers and gardeners, as Black folks, especially Black women, in agriculture aren’t given enough visibility. I’ve created five artworks, with more to come over time!
You can buy these seed packets for your garden and cool merch from SistahSeeds.com. Any purchase of merch -illustration prints and stickers of my designs - supports me directly as an independent artist!
Quoted from USAFacts.ORG: “According to the Department of Agriculture (USDA), there are 3.4 million agricultural “producers,” or the farmers and workers involved in making decisions from planting to harvesting to marketing on these farms. Among them, 63.7% are male, 63.2% are ages 55 or older, 95.4% are white, and 84.7% work on family-held farms.”
From the Sistah Seeds website: “Our mission is to regenerate culturally-important varieties and seed-keeping traditions from the African Diaspora, while uplifting black seed stories and empowering aspiring black seed stewards... Our vision is to help black growers reclaim their relationship to their seeds and support the development of seed sovereignty for African-Diasporic people in the Americas. We believe that cultivating seed sovereignty- the right of communities to self-determine their seed systems, and to locally-grown, culturally-relevant seed- is essential to preserving our heritage, to building resilient and vibrant communities, and to creating a strong agricultural foundation for future generations.”
